Compliance Investigations Manager

Your role

This role plays a critical part in safeguarding the company’s integrity, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory obligations (including whistleblower protection requirements), and strengthening the organisation’s investigative capability including managing external counsel where required, identifying trends and systemic risks, and supporting the ongoing training and development of investigation capability across the business.

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Lead and conduct high‑risk, sensitive, and complex investigations, including whistleblower matters, in compliance with applicable laws (including the EU Whistleblower Directive), ensuring confidentiality, fairness, and protection against retaliation.
  • Manage investigations end‑to‑end, from intake and scoping through evidence gathering, interviews, analysis, reporting, and remediation, in line with legal requirements and best‑practice standards.
  • Assess allegations and determine appropriate investigation pathways, including escalation, referral, and regulatory considerations, ensuring timely and defensible decision‑making.
  • Coordinate and advise the Investigation Group and senior stakeholders, providing clear status updates, well‑reasoned findings, and practical recommendations.
  • Engage and manage external legal counsel and specialists, and support interactions with regulators, law enforcement, and other external bodies as required.
  • Drive governance, reporting, and continuous improvement by identifying trends and root causes, enhancing whistleblower and investigation frameworks, and delivering training to promote a strong speak‑up culture.


Your qualifications

 

To succeed in this role, we imagine that you have the following qualifications:

 

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience conducting investigations in compliance, legal, regulatory, audit, HR, or risk environments, including independent management of high‑risk and complex matters.
  • Demonstrated expertise in whistleblower investigations and strong working knowledge of the EU Whistleblower Directive (or equivalent legislation), including confidentiality, timelines, and non‑retaliation obligations.
  • Proven ability to apply sound investigative methodologies, manage evidence appropriately, and ensure procedural fairness throughout investigations.
  • Experience instructing and managing external legal counsel and working effectively within regulated or highly governed environments.
  • Excellent analytical judgment, problem‑solving, and communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex issues to senior leadership.
  • High levels of integrity, discretion, and resilience, with the ability to operate independently, manage multiple sensitive matters, and engage confidently with senior stakeholders.
